The National “Energy Law” Competition Grand Final

1st April 2014 saw the Grand Final of the National “Energy Law” Competition in Poznan.

For the Grand Final, 5 winners of the first stage of the competition presented a lecture previously prepared for the competition. The presentations of the participants were evaluated by a jury which included, among others, Kamil Iwicki, the representative of W&W Law Firm.

W&W law firm participated in the Third Edition of the Energy Academy

Sunday 23/03/2014 saw the Third Edition of the Energy Academy at the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

W&W law firm was represented by Adam Wawrzynowicz and Tomasz Brzezinski, who gave a lecture entitled, “The storage of gaseous fuels – the importance and functioning of the sector.”

Kamil Iwicki represented the W & W law firm during the inauguration of the Third Edition of the Energy Academy

On 14 March at the Stock Exchange in Warsaw, the Lesław A. Paga 2065 Foundation opened the third edition of the Energy Academy. The ceremony took place with the participation of Vladimir Karpinski, the Polish Minister of the Treasury. The event was accompanied by two debates involving representatives of the Academy partners.

The debate “Energy Policy of the European Union and Polish Energy Security” was attended by Adam Czyżewski – Chief Economist of PKN ORLEN, Dr. Philip Elżanowski – Managing Partner of Elżanowski, Cherka & Partners law firm, Dorothy Dębińska-Pokorska – Director of the PwC Energy Group, and Gregory Onichimowski – President of WSEInfoEngine.

The panel was moderated by Jacek Grain, Deputy Editor in Chief of the economic monthly “New Industry”.

The second debate, “Investments in Power” was attended by Magdalena Bartoś – Managing Director for Economic and Financial Affairs of PGE, Dariusz Duplex – Chairman of the Warsaw Commodity Clearing House, Kamil Iwicki – Solicitor from the Office of W&W law firm, and James Stypuła – Director of Investment of the Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM.

The debate was moderated by Ernest Bodziuch, Polsat business journalist.

The aim of the Energy Academy project is the creation of a permanent educational institution focusing on energy security and the sustainable development of energy markets in Poland. The project is geared towards students and graduates up to 26 years of age, in particular those students of economics, law and engineering whose futures will be associated with energy. Fellows of the Academy will participate in a 10-day training course and paid internships in partner companies.

According to Agnieszka Karbarz – this year’s scholarship winner, “Participation in the Energy Academy is an inspiring experience with a combination of leading specialists, phenomenal commitment and enthusiasm scholarship workshops to deepen knowledge. Thanks to my participation in the classes, I can study the energy market under the supervision of experienced practitioners and, therewith, better understand the overlapping events and processes. This project is for me a source of motivation for the development and planning of my career in the energy sector. ”

And to quote Ewa Paga, the President of the Lesław A. Paga 2065 Foundation, “the Energy Academy is a unique platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between experts and practitioners in the energy sector and young people standing on the threshold of their careers. The project allows participants to access outstanding professionals, often inaccessible to students. The Academy is also an excellent opportunity to build long-term relationships with other young people from different fields, who are passionate about subjects such as law, energy, economics and computer science”.

The co-organizers of the project are the Lesław A. Paga 2065 Foundation and the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Honorary Patronage has been taken by the Ministry of the Treasury.

The Stock Exchange in Warsaw will host the inauguration of the Third Edition of the Energy Academy on Friday, 14th March 2013.

The celebrations will include a speech by the Minister of the Treasury – Vladimir Karpinski.

Representatives of the Academy’s Business Partners will participate in two debates scheduled as part of the inauguration. W&W law firm will be represented by Iwicki Kamil, who will take part in the second debate on investment in the energy sector.
